Andy Mineo Has a Point about Faith Deconstruction
As someone who writes poetry, I’m a huge fan of rap. On the other hand, even as someone who has given their whole life over to the Way of Christ, I can’t seem to get myself to enjoy “Christian” rap.
That said, I have mad respect for Andy Mineo, and even more respect for him after hearing some of his takes on the Relevant Podcast this morning.
Talking about a crisis of faith he shared with fans about in 2016–2017, Andy said:
“When you’re deconstructing things and reconsidering things you have to be more critical because you’re thinking *critically* about the things you’ve been taught, to deconstruct them or re-understand them. And so, being critical became part of my identity for a while. It was like I’d walk in anywhere and see something and start picking it apart and start laughing about it, being cynical with my friends. And I just realized it’s such a joyless life to live that critical.
So my new goal in life has been to find the good. In every expression of Christianity and faith, or just life in general, to just find the good — because you can’t control people, you can’t control things that are going on in the world, but you can find the good. And not to be naive to the bad or to remove criticism where criticism needs to happen for the good of a thing or company or people. But…
